Website accessibility is an important but often overlooked feature of website design. There is a misconception that accessibility only includes features designed for blindness or users with disabilities. However, accessibility is the ability for people to access and use the site, regardless of technology or ability. The most accessible the site, the more open it is to people to use it. So, it is in the web developers best interest to ensure a highly accessible site.

There are four important considerations to website accessibility, and each of them have different and important considerations to the design, structure and style of the site.

Cross-Browser/Cross-Platform Compatibility: does the site work with technology?

This is becoming a very important part of website accessibility. This includes the ability for websites to accommodate different browser types and screen sizes. This includes how the site views on mobile devices or tablets, an important and growing part of how websites are viewed.

It is also important that browsers can access the site. This might not mean legacy support for Internet Explorer 6, but it does mean being able to create sites that can be viewed in Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera. Without ensuring these browsers work well with the website, large risks are being undertaken.

Color Choice: does the contrast hinder poor vision?

The choice of colors plays an important part of the readability of the site. This is particularly important for people with poor vision or color blindness. Before choosing the site color palette or use of colors, it is useful to research how combinations affect common color blindness, so people with this sight issue can still read the site content.

Semantic HTML Markup: good structure for assistive technologies

The use of assistive technologies has really helped people with visual impairments make the most of the Internet. However, good semantic HTML Markup is useful for SEO and other website compatibility features. Therefore the accuracy of quality website markup is really important for ensuring great structure. Developers should be vigilant at keeping HTML tags in order and used correctly.

HTML Accessibility Features: available for use in websites

The available HTML website accessibility features and techniques can really help give the site access to people with visual impairments. Some research into how the website can effectively use these features will go a long way to ensuring that the website is open to everyone.

Accessibility tools: ways to check the website accessibility

There are several tools available that can easily test the accessibility of the website. The Juicy Tools has a CSS checker which ensures the visual elements of the website are optimized. The W3C Markup Validation Service checks over a page to see if HTML structure has issues, and looks to see if there are accessibility problems.

Web designers should also understand what the website is like for those who are visually impaired who are accessing the site. WebAnywhere provides a free web-based screen reader which can check the site for any issues in this regard.

Accessibility is about ensuring that the website is open to as many people as possible. It is therefore important for web developers to go through these checks and make sure their website is available to all.

The subject of blogging is one that gets a lot of interest – especially by the bloggers themselves. Consequently, it is easy for certain ideas to become institutionalized in thinking about the state of the blogging industry. However, some of these ideas require a little more scrutiny.

To blog you have to be a great writer

This isn’t entirely true. Being a great writer is certainly useful, but the more a person blogs the more their writing will improve. It isn’t to suggest that poor writers should think that blogging is easy.

On the contrary, improving writing skills is an important and useful side effect of maintaining a blog. There are plenty of ways to get feedback, including asking friends or even hiring someone to edit your posts.

You must post every day

It seems that often new bloggers feel that prolific writing is an important part of keeping readers. This is likely true if the blog is covering a fast paced news cycle – it becomes a matter of maintaining relevance. However, for most blogs three or four quality posts per week is enough to keep readers returning, and keep eyeballs on revenue generating adverts.

Blogging is dead

This is a popular mode of thinking which is based on the notion that people aren’t reading blogs any longer, when compared to their heyday. However, while people aren’t reading blogs out of the curiosity of what a blog is, they will always return to good content. A well prepared and well presented blog will interest readers and keep them coming back.

Blogging is Easy Money

As with any form of writing or artistry, getting a blog to make money and to keep it doing so is hard work. It doesn’t come easy. To establish any sort of excellence, putting in the time and effort is the only way to build something lasting. A blog is no different, and requires a good basis for writing and a lot of persistence. Keeping a blog is hard work, and a successful blog is the pay off for that hard work.

Blogging isn’t financially viable

While making a fortune at blogging might require a lot of hard work, it does remain possible to get a quality blog to pay for itself. As with the start of any enterprise, the pay out is not going to happen in the initial start up time. This often leads many new bloggers to think it isn’t possible. However, like any business, with good market research and some initial investment, blogging can pay returns.

Page views means success

While it is true that for a lot of blog monetization the more views means more revenue, page views is not the only measure of success. With the sophisticated level of analytics available, bloggers can live and die by their traffic numbers – but often this isn’t actually the case. Many bloggers are able to turn relatively low traffic blogs into a reasonable income.

Large spikes in traffic are great for getting regular visitors to your blog, but it is that organic base of people who keep coming back that will provide a sustainable revenue stream – so it is really important that those people are satisfied.

Blogging may have had it’s peak a few years ago, but the blogs that remain are still gathering a lot of attention. This is a maturing medium, so it is important for any aspiring blogger to ensure they have a good market to serve, a clear voice and something interesting and unique to say.

It’s really intriguing to watch a website in 3D. Have you ever desired to build your own 3D website? What are the main elements which play main role in the three dimensional appearance of the web? We are going to provide you the answers of all these questions which are rising in your mind.

When it all started?

It all started in 1952, when the first ever 3D movie “Bwana Devil” released. Since then, Hollywood released near 60 movies for next three years and cinema took a new twist. At that time, people used to wear colored 3D sunglasses and watch the titles in three dimensions. It seemed to come in waves.

Due to poor color fidelity and excessive eyestrain caused by the anaglyph format, it was all over in 1955. A brief rebirth in 1980s took place again. After a decade, VRML came in existence. VRML stands for “Virtual Reality Modeling Language”.

It was not 3D exactly, but it introduced us to the interactional 3D world. Dial-up connections were meant to wait for 3D content to download. After the set-up of the connection, it was deadly disappointing as some disconnected 3D structures like cubes, cubic and squares used to hang in the theatre. VRML was limited to the applications from different streams such as research, education and CAD systems (used for mechanical & electrical field especially).

Now, we are in the third generation. Hopefully, I’d love to say that we would be lucky many more times in the future.3D technology has driven the world crazy whether it is cinema or gaming. In 1995, first CGI animation movie “Toy Story” released which was a blockbuster on the box office. One of the famous directors, James Cameron got involved in the list of 3D movie direction with the release of Ghost of the Abyss in 2003. In 2004, Polar Express approved a boom for the 3D cinema.

This left the Hollywood stunned and 3D cinema has been a trend since then. In the history of 3D cinema, James Cameron’s Avatar in 2009 is a milestone as it earned $2.8 billion, making it the highest grossing movie of all time.
Latest technologies and efforts moved the 3D from theatre to the rooms and now they are available on the showrooms in cheap prices. Media companies such as Tata Sky, Direct TV, and Dish TV have even launched their own high definition three dimensional channels.

3D web

3D web is not that renowned as the 3D cinema and gaming. 3D cinema is also possible but it is not being trumpeted from the walls. 3D content is now available on the internet. But due to lack of media coverage, proper display on content is not possible. Flash and 3D Aware are the only online technologies which can bring the 3D experience to you.

Examples of the 3D web are- Adidas, Airbus, Sony Ericsson, American Airlines Flagship Experience, GE Ecomagination. Upcoming 3D technologies are 3D video streaming and stereoscopic 3D.

At the present, technologies are competing with each other to build a true and actual three dimensional appearance of the web. Although some things will take time to come into existence but one day, we all will be able to handle the 3D web.

We know that sounds and smells can engage your emotions, correlations and meanings. They provide you an easy environment to make your mood. An interesting fact is that typefaces can also do this job for you as they come in all sizes and shapes. But then we know that there are so many typefaces one can find in his or her drop down menu which can really make you perplexed and bewildered. Thus to avoid such situations, we are here to offer a good guideline to choose among various typefaces.

It is important to know about the various types and their widely accepted uses before digging to reach the treasure of available typefaces. There are four different kinds of typography library classification such as, san serifs, serifs, scripts and decorative also known as display or ornamental typefaces.

First we are going to describe the sans serifs which are categorized as the best because of their dearth of display or ornamentation. San serifs have the ability to be used in almost every requirement due to their readability at every size which is liked by most of the users. Various designers use them for their simplicity and they recognize them as the most fruitful at briefly and quickly displaying information with no visual or emotional triggers attached.

Thus this simplicity also discourages branding them to one visual identity or company. Some of the mostly used san serifs are Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, Verdana, Futura, Gill sans, Franklin Gothic and Universe.

There isn’t a lot of difference between Serifs and san serifs but they have mostly finished strokes at the end as well as at the start of each letter stroke. The serifs are actually the most widely used typefaces across the world. There are used by a professional designer as well as an email user. They are widely used for the purpose of body copy by the professionals as they are believed not to put extra stress on your eyes if going through a long text. These typefaces are the choices of various formal businesses and myriad other people. The commonly used serifs are Georgia, Times New Roman, Garamond, Bookman, Book Antigua and Century Schoolbook.

Then there is another kind of typefaces called Scripts. The basic aim behind these typefaces is to introduce more human touch to the text and put some feeling into it. They are designed after human handwriting. The quality of handwriting varies from that of a child to a grown up style such as calligraphy. They may be used for announcements or invitations, yet the use must be limited as they can put extra stress on user’s eyes when reading a big piece of text.

Then there is another set of typefaces which is called decorative or ornamental typefaces. They are mostly advised to be used in headings are some type of designs or decorations. The complex strokes make them unwanted for use in large texts and thus must be avoided. In business and news reports they must be definitely avoided. Thus every typeface has its unique usage where it is best suited when used.

As we all know that getting new clients for the business is the most important thing as well as a great challenge for the freelancers. Most of the online advices related to this topic are worthless, and you don’t get the proper instructions. Now, we present you the real secret of getting new clients for your business.

If you are a web designer that is delivering the web-related services, then you are at the right place.

No doubt, your speaking skills are the ones which will drive you to your marketing destination. Moreover, people often love to recommend friends or advise them about advertisements and review sites. You can use your existing clients to find the new clients for your designing business. There is a possibility that some of the clients would know the person who is searching for a web designer. For this, you have to do the certain things:

1) Excellent service

The first and most important thing you need is the quality of service you provide. They’d love to prefer the service excellence instead of other factors. If you meet all the expectation of the clients, you have to go beyond them. It’s a longtime process and there are no limits. You have to manage all the things by keeping profit in mind.

By providing an excellent service to the clients, there will definitely be an increase in the probability of getting new clients. If you are a good web designer, then you can satisfy the expectation of the clients by the good use of designing, positive behaviors and professionalism.

2) Client Affirmation

When you are meeting a client, communicate with the client without making efforts and promises of over delivering. Make the whole interaction as easy as possible. Try to answer quickly and satisfactorily. Always try to get the feedback. Understand the client’s suggestions on finished design and give him easy to follow instructions.

Do not question again and again. If you want to establish a long-term relation with the client, then what you need is a good web design website. Most of the clients will like to know about your status in the market so always stay with a good portfolio. Be a part of the communities related to web designing. It is a good way to learn new things as you’ll meet the new people with new ideas. Learn how people take decisions because if you get the trick of attracting the people, you don’t need to look back.

Finally, what you have to do can be summarized in these three points which will help you a lot to get success in online business:

1) Your Service- Always tries to improve it.

2) Your Publicity- Use your existing clients to get the new clients.

3) Your Value- Make money with various methods and creative ideas.

As a conclusive note, if you want a huge growth in your online business, then make new clients and this can be achieved by focusing on the above three factors. There is no time to watch and wait. As in this world, there doesn’t exist anything like a magic pill.

Web designing is a charming profession to opt for and one needs to know about various web-designing standards for it. Once you know about web designing techniques, you can code using them as well. This means that you can do more than just creating a web page for yourself or some company. However, the fact is that there are several standards of web designing. Here in this writing we are going to explain about the two widely used standards, HTML and CSS.

HTML is an acronym for “Hyper text Markup Language”, which is one of the old standards for designing websites. The fact is that it may be baffling for many who are new or not familiar with it. It is actually a code or language that can be used to position or edit frames, images or text and many other elements of the web page which you like. Once you are done you only need to go to your web browser and then just select View and after that Source – which is basically the code used in the website design and hence is accessible for everyone across the globe to see. The language is never a difficult one to learn as it uses some tags, which are the codes that can be used to design a simple web page. You can make your page more complex by only making the HTML code complex.

However, the experts are working hard to make these codes further easier even for the beginners who would then be able to make a website of their own with least efforts. What you see is what you get or WYSIWYG is a typical editor. The editor understands what HTML you require and helps you in designing a webpage, and you need not to take care of the codes.

It is the code which makes the newbie to commit mistakes as he or she is mostly unable to apply exact code. However, there are, software available in the market to change your document to HTML and hence are best for beginners.

On the other hand, CSS is a relatively new language and is not that easy to understand for the new web designers. It gives more control and creativity over your design. As there are several web browsers so it becomes difficult for the HTML designers to develop for these browsers. CSS requires from you lesser effort to design a style sheet and saves you the money and time. You need to edit one page, and the rest affected changes are made automatically and hence saves the headache of multiple edits.

However, the fact remains that HTML is still the best and CSS is actually used for improvements to make it more attractive. CSS is useful when you need to change the overall appearance like colors, image placement, backgrounds and content. It specializes in enhancing the look of your website page. You can have a better handle on the use of CSS if you are familiar with the Microsoft Office.

To live is to die, and to die is to live, need we an apple to fall on our heads to remind us the way home? Or do we wonder who is it that is throwing the apple on our head? Steve Jobs may have passed on to higher things, life ordered and obeyed, is now an apparition, a meaningless discussion for those who are still searching for Newton’s nemesis.

Rich tributes like rivers flow and the Apple still seeks it tree, of knowledge, from whence it came, and stay the thoughts of a hundred aspirations which are wrapped in one tiny bite. The applications, the viewpoints which one thought were impossible were now an open street, a new a way of life. Surely, they have passed on. The genius walks in shadows of disbelief and unbelief without any care anymore. Could more be said?

The various aspects of the life of Mr. Jobs are reflected in the artwork which are depicted in the site (refer last line)Today we see that another kind of life does exist, that there are turnings which man is capable of an dreams which flourish. If the applications fall short at times then you turn towards the inspiration, not the object itself. These subjects and much more are depicted in the drawings shown here.

Especially touching is ‘Steve Jobs Coffee Painting Tribute’ where the strokes of the brush capture the great man in one of his more favorite poses. You almost miss the coffee altogether until you gaze back again at the title. Portrait Illustration which depicts the scene where Mr. Jobs is unveiling his iPhone brings plenty of memories of fans, of times when there were no iPhones and of times when people dared not dream of things “as ridiculous as an iPhone!”

In terms of quality perhaps the painting ‘Thank You Steve Jobs’ is the best. There is sharpness about the picture which strikes the eye. The use of the darkness, and the splash of waves of color depicts clarity which ahs the characteristics of a photograph, almost. ‘Steve Jobs 1955- 2011’ is another painting which uses the darkness to depict the seriousness of the man. The aspirations of his dreams perched perkily at the tip of fingers in the shape of an apple.

‘Thought Differently’ depict Mr. Steve Jobs in his trademark black T-shirt and jeans. It also shows the triumph of the man against all odds even till the end. It brings us to the question, will there be another man like him, or will there be another time like the one he and all his followers passed through? For we know that the hour produces the man, and so does claim him. Is then this the end, we ask ourselves to live forever is to have another kind of dream, an aspiration to become that which man yearns to be and ….. will be ……. when we have another Steve Jobs.

Websites cannot remain stagnant for many reasons. Evolving information, better design features, the client’s own developing business or the nature of his products all contribute to evolving websites. Feature creep refers to having to alter or make changes to the website. This unenviable job usually falls to the lot of the designer.

There is no straight way to sort this out. The solution is situational. You have to identify the core issue based on your experience. Then decide how you should handle it. The changes could be related to simple syntax changes to basic functionality changes. A change in market sales figures or the introduction of fresh content will all necessitate amendments to the website.

Feature creep handling a lot to do with the communication level between the client and the designer.

Here are some simple tips to understand feature creep and resolve it:

1. Learn to say no in a professional manner. For example, you could try saying something like “We had agreed to wind up at this point. What you are requesting would be beyond what we had agreed to”. This will keep the discussion in perspective.
2. The focus should be on putting yourself across as a professional web designer or developer. The client will not understand the tediousness of re-doing code, technology hiccups or redesigning. He will not understand the issues that underlie making functional changes to the website. His attention will be on what he wants. You as a designer have to shift that focus and bring it back to you.
3. Web designers have to be seen as problem solvers not as coding machines. The profile of yourself as a designer should be made explicit so as to convey that you are there to solve problems but not to engage in endless coding to accommodate impossible requests.

4. Change the request statements into a tangible question which the client needs to answer. For example” I need more interactive messaging on my website:” may be rephrased as “ At which points would like interaction from the client?” or “I want more links.” Could become “which social networking sites would you like getting linked to?” This has two benefits: firstly it makes the client think about what exactly he wants and secondly the onus of the discussion shifts to the client. It also gathers more data on the issue that needs resolving.
5. The last but final dilemma comes when the designer has to put it across to the client (and to other members of his team) that the entire website needs redesigning from the square one upwards. Sometimes, this can be easier to do than patching up all the leaks one by one only to find more issues within issues.

Instead of juggling with a Pandora’s Box, it’s a lot better to start afresh. But this is easier said than done. The client will not like additional costs, the team members will not appreciate the extra effort but it is ultimately to everyone’s benefit.

Web copy very simply refers to the content you choose to put up on your website. This content could be text or images or video- just about anything but what web builders need to remember is that this content can either attract a visitor enough for him make follow up visits to the website or drive him away in about 15 seconds in desperation. Several websites suffer from this kind of malady. Web copy is the face of your product or company to your customers. The focus of that website should be on the client’s need and how you or your product can fulfill it. Most web copy emphasis is pointed the other way- at themselves.

You have chosen to build a website in order to attract more clients and then change those casual browsers into definite buyers or subscribers. Low quality web copy can reduce such conversions and escalate bounce rate to high levels. This will eventually hurt your website and you will be left wondering what went wrong. These are some techniques to avoid falling into such a trap:

1. Language: Language must be easy to understand and appealing at the same time. Imperfect language is not acceptable but this does not mean that the copywriter blows incomprehensible phrases at full steam at his reader. This is not a university English language examination. Your web content should provide real time interaction with real clients.

2. Shift in focus: There needs to be a paradigm shift in focus from what you want to say to what the client wants to hear. You may want to convey a lot of details both technical and otherwise but is the reader really interested to wade through all that?

For example, say you are marketing a children’s educational program in math. Stick to facts: Talk about what the program can do for children;” Kids can improve their counting speed” or “This is will help children learn to solve word problems”. If you say something like” The program is based on XYZ software with a 500 MB memory etc it takes away from what the customer wants to know.

3. The content generation depends a lot on your target audience. If you are a tire manufacturer and your target clientele is car companies, by all means go all out with technical details and manufacture statistics. They will be interested. But on the other hand, if you are selling slip proof mats, focus on facts like “The mat prevents slips and falls on wet surfaces” or “You can fix the mat easily” rather than give details about how the mat was made or what proportion of rubber is to cloth etc.

4. Web copy should not be an ego trip for companies. What the company has done in the past 50 years is of no consequence to the client. He is only interested in what the product can do for him.

Feed the client with what he wants. Avoid rambling on and on about information that is irrelevant to put across a sale: Plain and simple.

A design brief like preparing a document that has everything about the design that you are going to prepare for the client. Preparing a detailed brief will ease the interface between you and the client. The project will advance at a decent pace instead of facing incessant hiccups with back and forth clarifications, cancellations and modifications. Essentially, a detailed brief endorses a professional communication channel between the designer and the client by bringing clarity to the relationship.

Tips to preparing a useful brief:

• Clarify the aim of the design project. The project may be a reworking of an old website or else it could be an entirely new one. The ideas used in the concept could be the old ones or the client could be looking for new ideas from the designer. By requesting the client to specify what exactly he wants, you are setting firm goals for the design project with his input.
• Identify the client profile that the website is aiming for. Designing a math website for high school students will be different from designing a website for a corporate insurance company.
• Define a clear scope of the project: This will largely depend on what kind of website it is going to be. Websites may be information oriented or else based on shopping or trading. Your scope will be defined accordingly. The scope will help you identify the interactions you will have to design like social networking (Face Book, twitter) or professional networking (like linked-in).
• Pin the client down to specify his budget and his time frame: Both these rather important factors get sidelined and are responsible for most of the problems between the designer and his client. Make it clear that if you know the budget beforehand, you will be able to deliver better value for money. Similarly the time frame will help you plan your design schedules accordingly. Time frames could be tight (with fixed deadlines or with a flexible time frame).

• Client preferences: The styling that the client wishes his website to have is critical. Styles could vary from funky to educational to traditional. Clients are usually very specific about the look they want so make you understand this clearly. Similarly dislikes are also equally important. Make a list of features the client does not want and don’t waste your time designing those. If you do not specify these, a lot of precious time and effort will be lost due to cancellations and modifications.

What is the best method to gather these details about the design project?

A good option is to prepare a friendly, interactive and detailed questionnaire which the client can fill out. Another alternative is sit and talk to him and note down details.

Body language will also reveal his assent or dissent to any point. A brief should be prepared right in the beginning of the project and should be used regularly for reference throughout the duration of the project.
