The word copyright actually comes from the phrase ‘the right to copy’. From old times, it has been a common thing to copy or ‘lift’ something created by someone else. Copied books, copied films and copied music are a rampant occurrence. Copying is so much easier than slogging to produce original, high quality work. However, since this is obviously unfair, there are laws to protect the original author or producer from unlawful reproduction of his work. The internet is a global domain used simultaneously by millions of users around the world.

The very idea of developing the internet was based on the premise that information, services and products should be freely accessible to people all over the world. However, like all good things, there is a downside to this concept in the form of plagiarism of content.

Plagiarism refers to blatant lifting or copy of content in the form of text or images or music from the original maker of that product.Owing to the abundance of material on the internet, there are plenty of opportunities available to adopt someone’s blog content ‘unofficially’ – and not get caught, but copyright laws on the internet deter this offense. Copyright laws offer exclusive rights of the articles or blog or music to the person who created that content. A user can register his copyright over a particular piece of work.

Copyright can be registered for a limited period of time after which the copyright lapses. Copyright can also be transferred officially following set procedures, which allow the author to hand over the copyright to his work. Copyright infringement can be addressed by severe penalties in a court of law. This is why all written pieces are scanned by preventative software like CopyScape or Plagarismsearch to make sure they are not violating copyright laws. One violation of that sort can ruin the reputation of the content creator in question irretrievably. In some countries like the US, when a net user creates content, his content is automatically protected by copyright infringement without separate registration of copyright claims. It is not uncommon to hear of two individuals contesting a copyright case where both claim to be the original owner of a website or website content.

There are some classes of content, which cannot be copyrighted from the public. Some of these include material authored by the US government (information on federal laws and court decisions, etc.), scientific idea or principles, reprinted public works and commonly used material like calendars and phone directories. Again, this does not mean someone can produce a calendar with the same photos or pictures as someone else has already done.

To summarize, users should be careful about how much information they wish to share on the internet. Browsers, likewise, should be aware that the internet is a public domain with some codes of ethics regulating its usage. The two best methods to prevent this are by refraining from revealing valuable information and by taking care to register the content under rightful ownership.

Countless people use Google products and services daily. One of their most used products is the Google search engine. Other things like Gmail and Youtube are also very popular. Did you know that Google has many other products which can help you to boost productivity and make youru working day easier?

You might have thought of a great idea for a website, and built it. However, if you do not choose the right domain name, you might not get as much traffic as you would like. Domain names are an important part of any website, and choosing the wrong one might hinder your website’s progress in the online world. Sure, you might be thinking that it is not hard to think of a short name to use. Remember that this one little word or phrase is crucial to your online presence.

You might be wondering what you should think of when trying to come up with a domain name. How can you quickly find the best one? The following article will share some advice, tips and tricks that will help you to get the best domain name possible.

Short domain names

You could always come up with something like thebestdesignsiteintheuniverse, but that would not be very wise. You should try to make sure that your domain name is as short and easy to read as possible. While you might want to fit as much information in as you can, it can make your domain name hard to remember. Shorter domain names are quicker to enter into a search bar, easier to write down and remember, and they will usually serve you well. However, if you are thinking about shortening your domain name from professionalphotographyblog to ppb, you might want to think about. Ppb is short, but it is also difficult to remember because it seems like random letters. Just try to keep your domain short, and simple to remember, and you will be fine.

Equality

When you are thinking of domain names, try to come up with something that is related to your business name. When people remember a website, they will usually think of the business or site name, rather than the domain name. Always try to name your domain after your business name. This will help people to recognize the URL and easily remember what your site is all about. If you have a store which sells clothing and shoes, which is called the x shop, do not make your domain clothingandshoes. You should think of something like thexshop, because that is what your business is called. Choosing a domain name that is equal to your business name will help with branding, and make your company easier to recognize.

Unique domains

If there are other sites called theclothingstore and clothingsupplies, do not make your domain name theclothessupplystore. This will confuse people, and they will not be able to remember which domain is yours. Choose something that is unique, so that people will easily know which domain belongs to your site. Make your domain memorable by choosing something which is easy to identify. This will also help greatly with your company’s branding.

It can be difficult to choose the right domain name. However, if you are careful and keep it short, unique and easy to remember, you are more likely to succeed.

If you want to get traffic to your site, SEO is crucial. However, while there are many tricks that you can implement, the best way to get traffic is to have a well made, informative, website. If you have content that people are genuinely interested in, and a site which is highly functional, you will probably get visitors. However, you can also do things like using appropriate page titles, and create back links to your site. There are many tricks that you can use to get search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo to index your site and rank it well.

Recently, Google has started using a new algorithm to rank websites. It is intended to prevent people from using content farms to generate traffic, and stop the use of black hat SEO tactics. This might mean that better websites have more chance of being ranked, but it also means that you have to dig deeper when you are deciding on which SEO tactics to use.

Google is becoming smarter, and so are many other search engines. If you are going to succeed in generating traffic, you will have to look beyond your own web site, and think about the rest of the internet.

Google now looks at things like social signals when they are indexing and ranking a website.

Virality

If you have content which reaches well in the social world, it is considered to be viral. If people using social networks consistently like your content, you are more likely to rank well. Developing a strong network of followers is a very important part of getting traffic to visit your site these days. Long gone are the days of simply stuffing keywords into pages and hoping that they are picked up by search engine spiders.

Having a strong presence on social networks is important if you want your website to be noticed. Becoming viral is very hard if you have just created your site. However, if you advertise properly on social networks, and develop a large fan base on them, you are more likely to have visitors to your site. If people using applications like Facebook and Twitter like your website, they are likely to share it with people. This will help you to get more visitors, and create an awareness of your site.

Twitter SEO

Google now takes a look at things like Facebook and Twitter, when they are indexing sites. They look at data about which links are mentioned on, and then use that information to rank pages. If a certain Twitter account gets a lot of mentions by people, Google will tend to take more notice of it. If you can create a good Twitter or Facebook page which relates to your website, you are more likely to be able to go viral and get a lot of traffic. It is important to use social networks these days, because they are a great way to advertise, for free, and get people to notice you.

Freelancing is one of the most difficult ways to make a living. Spending your entire day sitting in front of a computer, coding, writing and sending emails to clients can really have a negative impact on your mind. Learning how to properly manage tasks is a crucial part to running any freelance business.

Here are some basic strategies for dealing with projects and managing your work load, so that you can be as efficient as possible.

Each of us only has a certain amount of time on this planet, and time does not wait for anyone. If you are going to properly manage your tasks, you are going to need to learn how to manage your time effectively. No matter how hard a worker you are, it is difficult to finish all of your work during one session. You cannot try to defeat time by relentlessly sitting at your computer working away. You have to realize that you need to work with time. Do not get down on yourself because you did not complete an entire task in one sitting.

You should reward yourself for the work that you did get done, and dedicate yourself to return to work as soon as you have done so. Rewarding yourself is a great way to boost your morale. It does not matter what you enjoy in life, use those things as treats which you can give yourself for completing set amounts of work. The best way to manage your time is to divide your day into segments and allot tasks to each time. At the start of the day, simply work out what you have to get done, and how long it will take. You will find that the day goes a lot more smoothly if you know where you are, and where you are heading.

Priorities

When you are writing down tasks that you must complete, it is important to list which tasks need to be completed first. Using an online calendar which allows for tasks, such as Google Calendar, is a great way to organise yourself. If you find that you need to change your priorities around, and then do so. You have to learn to be flexible, because life can throw a lot of changes at you.

Meetings

As a freelancer you probably know that dealing with clients can be quite a chore. You might spend a lot of your time talking to them and working out each little problem that any given project has encountered. You have to learn to keep your meetings, phone calls, and internet mailing sessions, as brief as possible. The client is paying you to get the work done, but they are not paying you to spend half the day discussing the work with them. Your time is valuable and you should not give too much of it away for free.

Less is more

Writing down each little thing that you need to get done might work for some. However, if you are faced with a huge list of tasks that take up every moment of your day, you might start to feel depressed and constricted.

Adobe software, such as Photoshop, has been standard for a long time. This became even truer after they bought Macromedia out, and got the rights to Fireworks and Dreamweaver. While Adobe products are versatile and powerful, they are also very expensive. Not every beginning designer can afford to stock up on all the latest Adobe software. Many people opt to download illegal copies of the programs, or simply use open source alternatives. There are many good free options out there, but they are simply not as good.

As of around May, there will be a cheaper alternative for people who want to have access to Adobe CS5.5. Instead of having to pay a large up front fee to own the software, a monthly subscription can be paid. This might cost more if you subscribe for a long time, but it is a cheaper alternative if you only do it until you can afford to buy the product. This article will take a look at CS5.5 and see what it implies for designers.

With CS5.5 you can subscribe to any one program that you choose. If you want Photoshop, you can get it for $35 to $49 per month, depending on how long you sign up for. There are a few different packages you can choose from, with a Master Suite for $129 per month if you sign up for a yearlong contract.

Paying for monthly subscriptions to software is a great idea for designers who are not going to be using all of their software at all times. Do not pay the full price for a piece of software just to have it sit on the shelf for half the year. Pay for the times that you are going to actually spend using the software, and no more.

Paying for software that will end up eventually going out of date is another bother. You will have to upgrade your software constantly, which means paying more money. If you subscribe, you will always have the latest version of your programs.
Do you need to hire a freelance worker to come into your company for just a month? You can pay a month long subscription for the software that they need, and then simply cancel it after that.

Being able to subscribe is a great alternative, but it is still nice to buy the full software if you can actually afford it.
The subscription option is not the only new thing to come out with CS5.5. Adobe is emphasizing the use of mobile devices but giving users more tools that let them make mobile applications. Flash is going to be supported by Andriod, which gives many new options to developers.

There is going to be new support for ActionScript and Flex if you get Adobe Flash Builder 4.5 Premium. The mobile elements will be included with this. There will also be new and improved collaboration tools so that you can work with anyone from anywhere, even on the other side of the world.

Defining what art is? can be a difficult task. A popular opinion is that art cannot be truly defined, because it is subjective to human emotions. Various modes of art include literature, music, painting, photography, graphic design, film and sculpture. Generally, art is defined as either a performance or item which is created in order to communicate or create aesthetic stimulation. There is no clear definition of what art is, but many people have their own opinions on the subject. One piece of text might be popularly noted as art while another work is defined as mere entertainment. It is ultimately up to the individual to decide what art is to them on a personal level.

The History of Art

One way of trying to define art is, understanding the history of art. There is no direct line, which can be drawn from traditional to modern art. Clearly, we can see that the market for art has developed over time and note how it has done so, but monitoring the development of art itself is much more difficult. Unlike the development of technology, for example, art cannot be clearly defined and therefore cannot be easily tracked.

Digital Art

The development of digital art has been much speedier than that of traditional art. An entire generation has been raised on the use of graphic design mediums such as “Photoshop” and similar applications. Digital art is still a relatively new medium, which has plenty left to be explored. Much electronic art is designed so that it can be viewed using lower resolution devices. This has created a trend of low resolution art work that does not have the intimate textures of traditional art, such as paintings.

The techniques used to create digital art have changed the way that art is created. Perfectly structured lines and shapes can now be created easily with digital assistance. What was once an art for only those of steady hands, is now something that can be mastered by anyone with the computer access. Digital art has turned computer geniuses, and indeed everyday people, into artists.

Social Networks for Artists

With the invention of the internet, the world seems to have become a much smaller place. Previously, people would need to seek out universities, higher education facilities and special clubs in order to share their knowledge, techniques, opinions, and artwork with their peers. These days all a person needs is a computer with internet access to share their art. Scanners can be cheaply purchased, and work can be uploaded onto social networks such as deviantart.com. These types of networks are bringing artists closer and giving budding artists the opportunity to have their work critiqued by more experienced people. It has never been easier to promote yourself and your work.

Online jobs for artists

Creating an online portfolio is as simple as uploading your work to an appropriate website or application. Artists can share their work samples with prospective employers and find freelance work on the many job sites available. If you are a budding artist it is important to have a strong web presence.

The first thing to realise about Web 2.0, is that it is not an update on Web 1.0. This may sound a little strange, but it represents the introduction of concepts rather than an update of internet protocols utilised by HTTP. As a web designer, it is how you incorporate and utilise these concepts in your web design, that is important.

Web 2.0 was a term that was coined rather than developed, and in essence it describes how the web is being used by users, and developed by developers. To understand Web 2.0, we must look at Web 1.0.

Web 1.0 is the standard protocols as used in HTML, but if Web 2.0 relates to the new concepts the web is being developed for, then Web 1.0 must also be a concept by association, and the concept of Web 1.0 was information.

In the early years of the world wide web, and really up until a few years ago, the web was full of information sites. There was interaction, but it was still finding its feet. Video took as long as it did to make it to download, and sites that encouraged social networking or videos, were limited by internet connection speeds, and the fact that nobody had thought of them yet.

Wind the clock forward a few years and Web 2.0 is fully fledged. Concepts such as social-networking sites, video-sharing sites, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies, have become household names. These sites, have brought the web into a new phase, or second generation of development.

The official deffinition of Web 2.0 as stated on Wikipedia, is shown below:

“Web 2.0″ refers to a perceived second generation of web development and design, that facilitates communication, secure information sharing, interoperability, and collaboration on the World Wide Web. Web 2.0 concepts have led to the development and evolution of web-based communities, hosted services, and applications; such as social-networking sites, video-sharing sites, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies.”

A bit of a mouthful, but in essense it discribes the change in how the web is being used in differnent ways.

So if new concepts have been introduced to coin Web 2.0, therefore Web 2.0 must influence web design, and this is where you come in.

The old concept of supply and demand is always true, and the web is no exception and you as a designer, must adhere to it. That is not to say that you must incorporate all of these new concepts into your designs, but you should rather look at the whole concept in the design, and decide weather any of these new concepts can enhance the site.

In all probability, most sites you design will have at least a blog section, but sometimes adding a little in the design stage, can mean adding a lot at a later stage.

Perhaps it is the possibilities that have been opened through the development of the concept of Web 2.0, which is where you should think outside the box. Though some critisims of Web 2.0, is that it is actually just doing what the web was meant to do, it is also fair to say that these concepts are still evolving, and their potential is still yet to be realised.

This view will come to fruitition should Web 3.0 concepts not really take off. This will mean that Web 2.0 was little more than a buzz word. Should this happen though, the concepts of Web 2.0, will still live on and be developed.

As a web designer, working with Web 2.0 concepts, it is an exciting time, as web design is truly evolving, and utilising the concepts we have gained from Web 2.0
