Brainstorming Tips for Freelancers

The human brain is so powerful that it can create thoughts, which previously seemed impossible. There is no computer or piece of software that can come close to the processing power of the mind. If any computer could match the brain it would still be a product of a human creativity. Brilliant ideas can come from anyone, but it takes a lot of delicate planning and careful execution to bring them into the realm of reality. Brainstorming is an important step in turning ideas into tangible things. It is the process of squeezing out any thoughts that you have and then piecing them together in order to make a stable plan.

Before you begin the brainstorming process, you should be aware of these simple rules.

Do not critique

Whether you are brainstorming by yourself or with others, criticizing your ideas is not on. If you are going to brainstorm you must write down or somehow record everything that you or your group comes up with. Brainstorming is not about editing thoughts, but rather recording everything. Save the critique for later when you are in the next stages of planning. For now, just get everything down, because you never know when you might want to use a certain idea.

The more the merrier

When you brainstorm, be sure to come up with as many ideas as humanly possible. It does not matter what they are, just think and think until you have a large list in front of you. Try to be creative and let your imagination run wild.

Integration of ideas

Once you have some ideas recorded it is time to bring them together. Choose the ideas that you think will work and figure out how to join them so that you can make a plan.

Unusual ideas

As we have stated previously, there are no bad ideas in a brainstorming session. Even if something seems peculiar and useless, it might help you to form a new idea. Even the worst ideas can be the sparks which create brilliant thoughts. Write it all down and do not edit as you go.

In order to effectively brainstorm you need to work out what problem you are trying to solve. Do you need to write some brilliant copy that will sell a product? Perhaps you need a great story idea that is going to keep readers guessing. Maybe you are looking for the most attractive and effective design for a website. Whatever your problem might be, identifying it is an important part of solving it.

Free your imagination

Do not be afraid to record contradictory ideas, because they are still ideas. Do not worry about spelling, grammar, sentence structure or neatness. Simply get everything down as quickly as you can and be sure that you are using your creative side.
