Logo… that’s a small word a four letter word that encompasses so much.
It shows the entire image of the company it is there to represent. It’s a serious responsibility to design a logo. You can make or break an entire company if you get it wrong. Remember that recent faux pas that was made by a well known brand that changed their logo? Wouldn’t think it would make such an outcry would you? One has to wonder if it was done as a way to wake the public up to the fact that they were still there.
Is it, the logo or the brand?
Where does one begin and end? Those big blue or black or purple letters, that give instant recognition to your mind of what the company represents. The logo, be it, a bottle or a heart or a bunch of letters, those items come to represent the entire company and are recognisable everywhere. It’s their personal simple way of advertising. A brand can belong to a logo. It can be their personal product, but it is an attachment to the company it isn’t the company itself. The logo is the company image and what it portrays to the world at large. Another way of looking at it is a logo, i.e. the company, can have many brands but the logo is the company.
Designing a logo
When you design a logo, you need to incorporate the image the company wished to portray to the world. It will be a simple, bold statement to the world, of “I am”. A stand alone statement, which makes the viewer say who is that? If it is new, or oh that’s all about sports wear or that’s an Airline company.
It’s the instant recognition in a single image. And the marketing strategy becomes all important to produce the right design. Your logo that you produce for a company has to hit the right note with the public b give instant recognition to the company and c. create trust in the company. The logo has to be like a catchy tune but played with the eye. Unforgettable and unique, you don’t want to be a follower you want to lead. The logo you design must not make people wonder if it belongs to someone else. It has to stand alone. If you are creating something that looks like a poor off shoot of other logo people will “brand” you as part of that company rather than your own company. In other words, the image will portray the connection even though you aren’t connected at all. As following is the perfect example of a social interest site.
Stand out in the crowd
Take Coca cola for an example. You are at a sports venue, and you are thirsty. You look around and you see that distinctive coca cola bottle and you head for it. You associate the bottle with quenching your thirst. You didn’t need to think. The logo told it all. Now that logo branded itself. It told you I am the company that can quench your thirst. The branding was the association of the company with the product it produced. For example, check this green lifestyle logo.
Hope that helped a little to understand what, you want to achieve with your logo.
Great info man, I’m falling in love with the “human” logo 🙂
