Social networks are a great way to increase your presence online and network with peers and employers. Once you have created your Twitter account and finished making your profile, you have to find some people to follow. If you choose the right people you can stay up to date with news that relates to your niche and network with them. Being a follower also allows Twitter to  use its recommendation engine to gain you followers. Being associated with the right people is a great idea if you are trying to network. When you read blogs or website content, there are often Twitter profiles mentioned at the end of the text. If you find someone that you believe is an expert in their field you should become a follower.

Twitter has a very good recommendation engine, so do as much as you can with Twitter, and you will probably get loads of recommendations. Just play around with the application. It will help you to familiarize yourself with it, and will probably get you more followers.
