Ways to promote your website and web design.

images10Well it has taken a while, and you are no doubt proud of your design for the website, but what is the next step?  Promotion, promotion, promotion, should be the next endeavor, so that people will know you are out there, and you can spread the word.

It is no secret that the world economy is not in the best shape at the moment, so it is becoming more vital than ever to maximize traffic to your website or web design.  Let us be clear, we need people viewing our work, or our work is pointless, and if you own a business, you need traffic to your site for income.  It is that simple.

Let us start with the basics.  Your URL should be on everything.  Stationary, vehicles, emails, t shirts, and kitchen sinks should have your website displayed loud and proud.  This may seem old fashioned, but it is a tried and tested means of marketing.  How many times have you seen a truck chug past with a familiar logo that registers with you?  Why should your website be any different?  How many time have you used contact information from a letter?  How many times have you read the words on a t-shirt?  Hundreds, thousands?  The point is that this is the more places your website is displayed, the more traffic will come your way.

Another way to promote your website and web design, is to utilize links.  Any email, or other websites that has a link to yours is positive.  A customer or subscriber, is only one click from seeing what you have to offer, unless…there is no link.  Look into linking your site with others, as this will drive traffic your way.  Any emails you send, make sure there is a link to your website.  This is a useful way to promote your website and web design.

A good, yet under used method of promotion is to list the website on directories.  Many of these are free to use, or low cost, and yet, they pull through on search engines and can, and will improve traffic to your site.  Which is the name of the game.

SEO or search engine optimization is a key way to promote your business.  See our article, “The importance of good SEO writing”.  This is basically where search engine key words are listed in the web content, so that search engine spiders will detect them and bring your website up the rankings.  As long as these are repeated a few times, they will get results.  It is another tried and tested means.

A similar method is blogging.  Once your URL appears on a few blogs, this is essentially free advertising for your site.  The trick here is to make sure you have something useful to offer as many blog sites, such as this one, will trash your post as a spam post.  Another way to utilize blogging is to write a few, so that visitors find your site while searching for similar information to what you offer.  It is also a good way to ensure a customer base.  The more people that read your blog, the more people will return, and the more you can charge for advertising space.  It also spreads the word about what you are, and what you do.

As the shrewd business person you are, you will have noticed that all these ways to promote your website or web design, are all low cost.  This can only be good news in these difficult, economic times.  The global market is becoming increasingly competitive, and these tried and tested methods will bring traffic your way.  So use these ways to promote your website and web design, and spread the word.  You owe it to yourself.

Twitter and Facebook are also great ways to promote your website. Especially when practically everyone who has access to the internet has an account.
